Weaving Independent Study at Succurro
ABOUT
The independent study offers a focused period of deep immersion into one’s weaving practice at Succurro, a beautiful and tranquil setting. Intended both for weavers with experience as well as those who are drawn to the practice of weaving that want to learn the basics.
For beginners:
You will learn to how to dress a floor loom and weave basic structures. You will also receive guidance on how to continue your study and build a weaving practice.
For weavers with experience:
You will have the opportunity to plan and carry out one or more projects with guided assistance exploring any number of these approaches to weaving - technical, material, conceptual, historical, ancestral, etc.
ROOM & BOARD
During the winter months you have the option to stay in the studio apartment or back apartment attached to the main house, fully equipped with a private kitchen and bathroom. A floor loom will be set up in the space for you along with basic weaving tools and a small collection of weaving books. In the warmer months, you have the added option of staying in one of our glamping tents, which has an outdoor kitchen, outdoor bathrooms, and your loom will be setup in the studio barn.
During your stay you will also have the opportunity to explore the land – the farm, plenty of fields, a trail up in the woods, and a stream that runs through.
You will be responsible for providing and cooking your food during your Independent Study. There is plenty to purchase from Succurro as well — vegetables and meat raised here, fresh sourdough bread, and eggs. You are also responsible for your travel to and from Succurro.
The costs of Independent Study include a per-night fee for staying in the studio apartment or tent, which is discounted the longer you stay. This nightly fee includes cleaning fee and loom rental. Additionally, we will work out how many hours you will need of guidance. All of this will be worked out in our consultation, made to fit within your budget.
